Question 4: How did you integrate technologies in this project?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_RF51qhGZkk

Transcript:
In this project I used the sites like blogger, photo shop, Poster My Wall, survey monkey, gmail, and Canva. The blogger site was used to keep me up to date with what I have done and keep my research in a timeline so that I may see how I have come up with my final project. Then photoshop was used to crop the images that I have received which were taken with a phone. The site Poster My Wall is the first site that I used for the preliminary task to create the magazine. The site survey monkey and gmail worked hand in hand. The survey monkey site put the survey I created in one easy link form and got the responses for me so that I would see the responses in a chart and gmail sent out the link and got the emails of the people taking the survey. Finally, the last site used was Canva which helped me create my final pieces and was a lot easier to work with.

Question 1: How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1bb3EdxeAw

Transcript:
My magazine does use conventions that I have learned through creating this process. First I will start off with the cover. The conventions on the cover are the masthead which is  the "Locker Room". I also have Cover lines so that I let the reader know what the article is going to talk about. In the magazine the image on the front so that I let the reader now who the magazine is about and what sport it will be on. This image is suppose to look like other sport magazines where a top athlete is shown on the cover. I also believe this athlete is one that people will look up to in the near future. There is also on the margin coverlines to let the reader know what the magazine does feature and what to look ahead for. This might want to make someone buy the magazine. Then on the content page the athlete shows up again but in a different picture. The picture insures that the reader knows who the athlete is and show the reader what he is known for. Then to keep the audience engaged in my magazine I changed the color scheme like the cover was burgundy background and now the lettering of the cover page was burgundy. This allows me to make sure that the audience does not get bored of the magazine. Another aspect of the content age is that I wrote a little bit to give a sneak peak to the reader so they may read the stories that interest them the most. Finally on the double page spread, I kept it very simple with a nice image of the athlete on one page and the article on the other. I felt that the title of the article would catch the readers attention.
This magazine could be read by anyone but people that would read this magazine would be athletes and people interested in the world of sports. The article may give them inspiration by hearing a kids life story that with hard work and people believing in him, got him to where he is today.

Double Page Spread

During the process of creating the double page spread I knew that I wanted to have an image on the left side of the paper and I chose the best image that I had left. In the image I left the black background so that the viewer can see the difference between the double page. Also I put the story on the right side of the page, dividing the image from the story. The story did have some edits and when I read the article again after the edit it did sound a lot better. The double page spread, I decided to have a maroon background and put the letters in white so that they pop out and catch the readers attention. The background color is the color of the college team that Nolan Santos plays for. Finally I made the name of the story based on what I felt the story meant to me. And when you read the article it does show Nolan success and how he became the person he is today.

Here is the double page spread:

Table of Contents page

In creating the table of contents page, I had to choose from four images left and I put one image in the page. I was playing with the image and I felt that it was best for me to leave the background of the image. The image also looked best on the top of the page because when I moved the image, it just felt out of place. Then with playing with the color of the font, I had tried gold but the visibility of the font was not good on the white page and when trying a dark background it caused the magazine to not look eye catching and appealing. I kept trying the colors of the font and saw that this combination worked best for the post. Then continuing on the magazine for this page, I finalized it with putting the subtitles under the headings so that it makes the stories appealing to the reader. I hope this page wants people read about the feature story of Nolan Santos.

Table of Contents Ideas

For the table of contents, I will upload two to three images on the page and will have 5-6 articles headings with a little bit of description for each one. The color scheme of the tables of contents page will be a plain white page and the images will hold there background. The word table of contents will be on the top and the images might be on the top or the side of the page. I am not completely sure yet. The images will be of the star athlete and I might add another model image to put on the table of contents but a small picture. The big picture on the content page will be Nolan Santos. Also, the page will have the name of the magazine on it.
An example of the style of magazine I am doing is the one below:

Image result for table of contents in a magazine for sports

But with less stories and one image will me larger to stand out.
The font colors will be black, burgundy, and gold.

Draft of Feature Story

Here is the draft of the feature story. I will go over it and the quotes from my athlete and see if I should add and/or change anything in the story.

From a high school star of winning all county pitcher two years in a role, to being a freshman and a big baseball college, pitcher Nolan Santos. Santos is now a starter at Bethune- Cookman and is still playing the game that he loves. When asked when he knew this was the dream, he answered that “I always had a love for the game”.
Nolan Santos in high school was one of the best and his accomplishments show that. In high school, people would have thought that he had more options for college but Santos told us that he “received two offers, one from a D2 school and then Bethune”. Santos had a decision to make and some would say an easy one since Bethune is a Division 1 baseball school. But choosing the school was the easy part for him.
Handling the studies and playing baseball was the hard part. When asked how he handles both, he states, “It is very hard but you tend to get used to it”. He even said it feels like “two lives trying to be one”. Even though Santos says it is difficult, you cannot see it when he is on the field. He seems to shine every time he is out there. But Santos also has his supporters, his parents and his two best friends. When Nolan Santos is describing his friends he states that he “has known them since they were young and we played together all through high school. They are my biggest supporters”.
When looking back at high school, Nolan Santos sees it as the best time of his life and when asked what his favorite moment was, people would be surprised with it. Santos states that the best moment was “My tenth grade year and we were playing our rival School Coral Gables and I hit the walk off hit to win the game”. That moment for him was one of the best because everyone knew he could pitch but that hit changed his confident level.
Nolan now will experience his college life and hopefully fulfill his dream. When asked what his dreams are, he stated “The dream is to get drafted and end up playing Major League baseball.” Santos has a big life ahead of him and him I someone everyone should go out and watch.

Magazine Cover

To finalize my magazine I had to place the image that I chose for the magazine cover. I also had to edit the image using Canva. I adjusted and cut off the background of the image so that the body was the only thing showing up in the magazine. The fonts of the magazine was made smaller so that the image was bigger and had more space. Finally, the image was put to take up most of the magazine and when I looked at other baseball magazines, the image even took a bit out of the name of the magazine, so that is what I did.

Magazine color scheme updated

Since I had a change in the featured athlete in my magazine then I will also have to change the color scheme that the magazine will be using. The colors will be of the University that he attends which is Bethune-Cookman University. The colors of the University is maroon and gold. I will have an image of the athlete in his uniform and in different poses. Then, I will choose the best pose I feel is the best fit for the magazine. The cover of the magazine will be using the color black as well and the lettering will be in the colors of the school. The black background will make the athlete pop out and the lettering since the colors of the school are bright colors. The athlete will also have to wear his alternative uniform which is maroon so that he may stand out and be the main image of the magazine.

New magazine themed athelete

As going through my research and talking with my classmate, I noticed that the featured story should be about an athlete that has a chance of going pro. Also, the athlete should be going to a good college and be playing a division 1 sport. The sport I am doing is baseball so through the research I have a good friend of mine that is playing at a great school and has won many achievements in his high school life. His name is Nolan Santos and he will be the candidate I will be using for the magazine. He will be the featured athlete. The double page spread article will be about the struggles he had to go through and what his routine was. Also, it will talk about what motivated him to continue to play the game of baseball. Then the article will talk about his college life so far and what he feels he brings to his college program.

Magazine color scheme

The colors that I will be using for my magazine will be the colors of the school team I am doing. The school team I am using is from American Senior High School and there colors are red, white, and blue. The colors that are in the magazine have a significance and meaning to them in media. Through my research, I found out the significance of these colors are:

Red
In media this color is used to portray energy. This color is an intense color and it is used in most magazines because the color may have meanings. Depending on the shade of red then that will represent the meaning. For example if the red is very light means to be energetic, while a darker shade of red is meant to show power.

White
The color white in media is used to portray goodness. White may be used with any other color and this color will be used throughout small sections in my magazine, especially in the cover.

Blue
The color blue that I will be using is navy blue which is a dark blue shade. The dark blue shade portrays knowledge and power. This color blue will be used throughout most parts of my magazine and I am still not sure what color will be the main color. It is either blue or red.

Magazine Model Ideas

For the magazine that I am creating I will need to choose a model that is from my high school since I will be doing it on a high school sport. Also, the model needs to play the sport baseball since that is the sport I choose to do. The two ideas that I have is to have a single athlete or a trio. For a single athlete I would make him the center of the magazine and I will get an action shot of him doing some type of movement relevant to baseball. Where if I were to do a trio in the magazine then I would have one person with a bat, a player with just a glove, and a player with him holding a ball out in front and all of them standing next to each other. Then after choosing how many models I will need, then I will confirm a date with the model or models so that they all come dressed in the proper uniform attire. Finally, the featured athlete or athlete will then have a story and their color background will be red, white, or blue since those are the colors of the high school that the athletes play for.

Influence in Media "Representation"

In this post I will be talking about representation and the significance this word has in media. Representation is the way the media portrays a particular group or community. The media may change the way a particular event is seen. People tend to believe what the media puts out. A great example is in politics. Usually when a politician gives its speech, the media tends to make the speech support there side and it is not what that person meant to say. In representation, codes are used in the media to make the magazine look as relevant to the problem as possible and so that it attracts the people interested in that topic.
For the magazine that I will be creating, I need to make sure that my sports athlete is represented to the best of my abilities. I will need to use the codes correctly so I gain an audience that will be interested in the magazine that I create.

Influence in Media "Media Reinforcement theory"

In this post I will be discussing the media reinforcement theory. This theory suggest that the media is not responsible for establishing or changing the beliefs of people. The theory says that media can only further support your personal opinions. The media viewpoint will be used as people support when explaining there side or the media can give people evidence. Most of the times people's viewpoint are already established before they read the magazine and the magazine "reinforces" there opinion. For my magazine the player or team that I write my magazine on will help people support there opinion on the team or person. For example if I right about the MLB (major league baseball) team, the Astros and about how they "cheated" to win the World Series then I will have an audience who dislikes this particular baseball team and the magazine purpose will not establish anyone's opinion but will instead further support there opinion.
